In a closely contested match Wales edged out England to take the Gold medal. They were tied on 46 placings after the four sessions but with 2694 points Wales were just ahead of England's 2686 points. Scotland were third with 55 placings and Ireland were fourth with 57.

The top individual was Andy Cliffe of England with 7 placings (1, 2, 2, 2) with Scotland's Derick Logan just behind in second. Derick also had 7 placings (2, 1, 2, 2) but lost out on points by 766 to 575. Scotland's Kenny Riddel (3, 1, 3, 1) just touched off Simon Barton (2, 2, 1, 3) of Wales for the third spot with both on 8 placings. Kenny had 439 points to Simon's 303.

Session 1

Wales had a good start to the match and with two first places (Kieron Jenkins and Paul Jenkins) in session 1 their 10 placings put them at the top after that session. England also had two 1st places (Andy Cliffe and Simon Robinson) and were just behind in second with 11 placings. Ireland had one 1st place (Andrew Sloan) and were third with 14 placings ahead of fourth placed Scotland with 16 placings.

Session 2

Wales also won session 2 with another two first places (Terry Bromwell and Dean Kibble) giving them 10 placings to stay in the overall lead with 20 placings. England had one 1st place (Robert Brown) to be second with 11 placings to stay in second with 22 placings overall. Scotland moved up to third spot overall with with 28 placings courtesy of of two 1st places (Derick Logan and Kenny Riddell) for 12 placings in session 2. Ireland dropped to fourth with their 17 placings giving them 31 placings overall.

Session 3

England had a good session three and moved into the overall lead with 32 placings. They had another two 1st places (John Tyzack and Terry Phillips) to collect 10 placings in session 3. Wales once again had two 1st places (Simon Barton and Dean Kibble) but their 13 placings dropped them down to second overall one placing behind on 33 placings. Ireland were third in session 3 with one 1st place (Brian Russell) and 14 placings to remain fourth overall with 45 placings. Scotland's 16 placings kept them in overall third with 44 placings.

Session 4


It was all to play for in session 4 and a late push by Scotland with two 1st places (Kenny Riddell and Calum Crosbie) and 11 placings saw them top session 4 and remain in third place overall with 55 placings. Ireland also had a good session with one 1st place (Darius Simkus) and two seconds to give them 12 placing and fourth overall with 57 placings. Wales and England each had one 1st place (Kieron Jenkins and Robert Brown) to give them 13 and 14 placings respectively to tie overall with 46 placings but with gold going to Wales with 8 points more then England.
