Sponsorship & Fundraising 2012

International Loch Teams:

Fishers and the Lake of Menteith Fishery are the main sponsors of the Spring and Autumn International Teams in 2012. Fishers also provided support for the teams in 2011 and have now offered to sponsor the teams for 5 years. This is the fourth year that the Lake of Menteith has sponsored the teams and we are grateful to both Fishers and the Lake of Menteith for their continued support. The funding provided by them will be used to reduce the costs that would otherwise have to be paid by the individual team members.

The Fishers website can be viewed at www.fishersdirect.com
The Lake of Menteith website can be viewed at www.menteith-fisheries.co.uk

BVG Airflo and Flyfish Europe have sponsored the international loch teams for a number of years and will also do so again in 2012. We are pleased to report that two new sponsors are on board this year and they are OES and Lochgilphead & District AC. Click on BVG Airflo or Flyfish Europe or OES to go to their websites

New Haylie Fundraiser
Saturday 10th March

The third of our fundraisers was held at New Haylie Fishery on Saturday 10th March and with the weather being kind to us it looks like spring is just around the corner. The fundraiser was organised by Gus Shepherd from the Autumn Team and Davy McAllister from the Spring Team and from the start to the finish everything went well. 28 competitors took part and with fish moving constantly throughout the day the biggest problem they had was which fish to target next. George and Senga run a superb fishery and this is a venue well worth a visit. 205 fish were caught with the top three rods taking 21, 20 and 19. Wullie Leach was the top rod and was closely followed by Martin Smith and Ben Scredetchi. At the presentation of prizes Gus thanked George and Senga for their hospitality and also thanked everyone who had donated prizes and all the competitors who had taken part. £620 was raised on the day.

Markle
Saturday 25th February, 2012

Forty Five anglers turned out at Markle on Saturday on 25th February for the fundraiser that was rescheduled from earlier in the month. It was chilly at the start of the day but warmed up when the sun broke through after 10am. Markle allowed us to have all three ponds and put on hot pies at lunchtime to go with Nigel's soup to get some heat back into everybody. There were some huge fish porpoising in the main pond which helped keep every competitor concentrating on the job in the hand and nine competitors caught nine fish or more. With only a couple of blanks a total of 233 fish were caught.

Top rod was Alan Grant with 13 fish and he received a rod presented by Fishers. He was closely followed by Martin Smith with 12. Third spot went to Brian Taylor who had 10. Martin Smith had plenty to smile about as a fish on his first cast in the afternoon earned him a bottle of champagne. There were some superb prizes to be won in the raffle or bought at the auction and Jock has now found a new calling as an auctioneer.

The Spring and Autumn Teams are grateful to the many sponsors who either sponsored a peg or provided prizes to help with the fundraising. The teams also wish to thank the anglers who attended and Markle Fishery for their support. Everyone had a great day and the efforts of all involved raised £1,980.

Parkview - Sunday 19th February 2012

Parkview was the first of our fundraiser competitions that we were able to run this year and with the weather being kind to Fife the hard work that was put in by Wullie Simpson and John Buchanan was rewarded by the 20 competitors having a great day out.

Once again Jim and Edna Moffat, who run Parkview, had everything spot on and with bonus pounds being awarded for fish over 4lbs, 6lbs, 8lbs and 10lbs, Wullie and John spent their day running from peg to peg to weigh these heavier fish. The heaviest fish went to the scales at 10lb 8oz and was caught by R Beumont. George Brown came close with a brown trout that was also over 10lbs.

The top rod was Neill Barrett who netted 14 fish and with a bonus of 14lbs for his bigger fish he finished with 42lbs. Ewan McDougal was second with 5 fish which with a 10lb bonus gave him a total of 20lbs. Rab Maxwell was third with 6 fish and with a 4lb bonus he finished with 16lbs. This was similar to last year when Rab Maxwell was first and Neill was third.

The catering was every bit as good as the fishing and once again Mrs Florence Thomson made sure that nobody went home hungry.

We are grateful to all the businesses and individuals who sponsored this event or donated prizes and also wish to thank all of the competitors who made it such an enjoyable day. A total of £600 was raised and this will go towards the costs that have to be met by the 2012 Loch Teams going to Sheelin and Brenig.
