Semi Finals & Final

Scottish Club Championship Final - 28th September

The twenty teams that had qualified through the Saturday night heats and the two semi finals contested the final on Friday 28th September at the Lake of Menteith. Conditions were hard with a biting wind that blew up three or four times during the day when it drove the rain across the water. The competition was on a partial catch and release basis with anglers retaining their first two fish and being awarded 2lb for every fish returned thereafter.

There was only a couple of fish separating the top three teams with the Menteith Ospreys Club coming out on on top 23 fish for 50lb 12.8oz with their team of Ronnie Gilbert, George Whyte and Peter Auchterlone taking 11, 6 and 6 trout respectively.

In second place was Strathleven FF with 21 fish for 46lb 12.8oz. Their fish came from Campbell Morgan (9), Donald Forbes (8) and Peter Batchelor (4). In third place was Newton Mearns FF with 21 fish for 46lb 0.6oz. Their fish came from Billy Dewar (9), John Buchanan (7) and kenny Hunter (5).

Ronnie took his trout on blobs and cormorants on a midge tip line. He stuck to the quieter water at Lochend and had 7 trout by 1pm. Things slowed down after a squall about 1pm with his other fish coming steadily thereafter. Peter took his trout at Reedy Point and Gateside Bay. At Reedy Point he fished a tequila fab on a midge tip line while in Gateside Bay he used tequila blobs and boobies on a DI5. George stuck to Lochend and the Butts and took his trout on a tequila fab and a claret snatcher on a midge tip line.
