For the second time in three years
Mike Cordiner of Aberdeen & District AA is the Scottish National River Champion. Mike first won the title at the 2010 Championship and came close in 2011 when he was runner-up to his clubmate Richard McHattie. On a day when fishing was hard it was essential to take fish in all four sessions to be in the top five and by the end of the day it was only the top five that managed to do so.


Mike was drawn in the lower sector for sessions one and two and managed to take 1 trout in his first session and 2 trout in his second session. He moved to the upper sector in the afternoon and took 3 trout in session three to be second in that session and won session four with 6 trout to finish with 12 place points. All of his fish were taken on wets and his largest fish was a trout of 30cm.

Dick Logan of Coldstream & District AA was second with 9 fish and a total of 16 place points. Dick was drawn in the upper sector in the morning and won the the first session with 4 trout and followed with 2 trout in session two. He was in the lower sector in the afternoon and took 1 grayling in session three while in session four he had one trout and one grayling. His largest fish was a grayling of 35.2cm which came in the final session. Dick took his fish on dries in the morning and on bugs in the afternoon.

Jake Harvey of St Boswells, Newtown & District AA was third with 7 fish and a total of 19 place points. Jake was also drawn in the upper sector for the first two sessions and was second in session one with 3 fish (2 trout and 1 grayling) and won session two with 2 fish (1 trout and 1 grayling). In the lower sector in the afternoon he had 1 trout in session three and 1 trout in session four. Jake's fish were taken on a mix of dries and french nymphs with his largest fish being a trout of 36.2cm.

Robert Irvine of Crown FF was fourth with 7 fish and a total of 26 place points. Robert was drawn on the upper sector in the morning and the lower sector in the afternoon. He had 1 fish in session 1, 2 in session two, 1 in session three and 3 in session four.

Calum Crosbie of Newton Stewart & District AA was fifth with 5 fish and a total of 28 place points. Calum was in the lower sector in the morning and the upper sector in the afternoon. He had 1 fish in sessions one, three and four and 2 fish in session two.

Alan Hill of Strathclyde Police RAAS was 6th with 9 fish and a total of 44 place points. Alan was also drawn in the lower sector in the morning and the upper sector in the afternoon. He had 3 fish in session one and won session three with 6 fish.

The top six will make up the team and reserve for the 2013 International Team to go to Wales.

The largest fish of the day was caught by Robert Irvine and was a trout of 38cm which was taken in session four.
