Heat 12 - 21st July

Sixteen clubs took part in the 12th heat of the Scottish Club Championship on Saturday night. With a good westerly breeze and overcast skies, conditions were near perfect as the teams went out. The wind gradually dropped as the night wore on and the temperature remained high for a change.

Top club was Saturday AC with their team of Gordon Walder (9 fish), Steven Walder (4 fish) and Robert Ewing (2 fish) taking 15 trout for 39lb 15oz. In second place was Rainbow Warriors "A" with their three man team of Laurie Taylor (6 fish), Iain Earle (5 fish) and Alex McEwan (4 fish) taking 15 fish for 35lb 15oz. The third place was taken by Alba Orvis FF "A" with 10 fish for 23lb 10oz. Their team was Calum Crosbie (5 fish), Gregor Fleming (3 fish) and Rory Crosbie (2 fish). Heat 11 - 14th July

Just for a change it stayed dry all night and the sun shone for most of the evening. However there was an edge to the wind which gradually increased in strength as the night progressed and by the end of the session it was chilly. Twelve teams were out and many of the competitors found it hard going.

Top team on the night was the Clan Chiefs team of Barrie Robertson (5 fish) Alan Ramshaw (4 fish) and Max McInstrey (2 fish). Their 11 fish weighed 28lb 15oz. Second were Leslie & Glenrothes with 11 fish for 26lb 9oz. Their team was Neil Duff (1 fish), Raymond Anderson (8 fish) and Stevie Anderson (2 fish). The third team was Dows FF with 10 fish for 24lb 9oz. Their team was Stewart Montgomery (6 fish), Abigail Montgomery (4 fish) and Jim Dick. These three teams go through to the semi final on 21st September.

Raymond Anderson of Leslie & Glenrothes was the top individual rod with 8 fish for 16lb 11oz. Raymond took all of his fish on dries at Sams Point. Second was Stewart Montgomery of Dows FF with 6 fish for 13lb 14oz. Stewart took his fish in Cages Bay on a tequila booby and cormorants fished on a midge tip line. Third spot went to Ralph Fleming of Kilbirnie AC who had 5 fish for 12lb 13oz. Ralph also took his fish in Cages Bay where he was fishing nymphs and boobies on a floating line. Fourth and fifth were Barrie Robertson of Clan Chiefs and Abigail Montgomery of Dows. These five go through to the Champion of Champions final.

The heaviest fish of the night was a cracker of 3lb 12oz which was taken by Gordon Armstrong of Rescobie Loch

Heat 10 - 7th July

It was a tougher night than of late, with a flat calm of a night but there was still a respectable catch of fish. The fish are averaging just under the 3lbs at present (2lb 13.5oz) and at this weight a higher percentage are lost and 10lb fluorocarbon is recommended.

Roofer Kenny Hunter from Gargunnock netted all five of his fish in Gateside Bay. He was fishing a cat booby and blob with a midge tip line and latterly changed to a fast glass line. Kenny was broken twice and lost also dropped two.
