Final - 29th September 2023
 
With storms running across the country on the days before the Scottish Clubs final it was only to be expected that conditions would be difficult on match day.  On the day the 60 anglers in the twenty teams that qualified for the final had to contend with a strong westerly with frequent squally showers and gusts.  It brightened up through the afternoon and given the difficult conditions the anglers did well to net a total of 125 fish for 297lb 11.5oz quite a few of which were over 4lbs.  The final was fished to a two fish kill followed by catch and release will 2lb being awarded for each returned trout.

The top team was the Military Veterans FF "B" represented by JP Maestri (8 fish), Jock Royan (2 fish) and Graeme Sharp (7 fish) with a total of 17 trout for 36lb 7.9oz.  They received the first prize of £500 and each member of the team received a box of 120 flies provided by My Fishing Flies; vouchers from Snowbee for 50% discounts and gold medals.

In second place with 14 fish for 31lb 5.7oz were Glasgow Post Office AC "A" represented by Kenny McClymont (5 fish), John Simpson (4 fish) and Brian Kennedy (5 fish).  They received the second prize of £200 and each member of the team received vouchers from Snowbee for 40% discounts and their silver medals.  In third place with 11 fish for 26lb 7.8oz were Albacats "B" represented by James Kerr (2 fish), Greig Davie (7 fish) and Mark Fleming (2 fish).  They received the third prize of £100 and each member of the team received a voucher from Snowbee for 30% discounts.

The heaviest trout caught during the heats that was brought to the scales weighed 4lb 14oz and was caught by Colin Smith of Brechin AC in heat 8.

The presentation dinner was held at the Forth Inn, Aberfoyle and all the anglers that attended the dinner received a Glencairn Crystal whisky glass. A raffle and auctions held at the dinner plus donations raised over £670 which will go to the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

Semi-Final No 2 18th August 2023
 
The second of the semi-finals was held on 18th August and the 60 anglers caught a total of 293 fish.  Top team was Rothes Oak AC "A" with 22 fish for 46lb 6.8oz.  They were represented by Paul Cushnie (7 fish), Gary Ormiston (4 fish) and Wullie Simpson (11 fish) and they each received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies.  In second place were Lintrathen FF  "A" represented by Kevin Neri (7 fish), Neil Anderson (5 fish) and Chris McAllister (11 fish) with a total of 21 fish for 44lb 7.1oz.  Ferry FF "A" represented by Andrew Glasgow (8 fish), Gordon Fisher (2 fish) and Mark Patrizo (8 fish) were third with 18 fish for 41lb 3.9oz.

Semi-Final No 1 11th August 2023
 
The first of the Scottish Club Championship semi-finals was held at the Lake of Menteith on Friday 11th August.  Twenty teams took part on a bright and breezy day with a few showers throw in for good measure.  The sixty anglers caught a total 250 trout and of the 106 brought to the scales at least 16 were over 4lb.  The top 10 teams go through to the final on 29th September.

The top team were Firecats "A" represented by Joe Wood (10 fish), Campbell Cree (7 fish) and Kevin Craig (6 fish) with a total of 23 trout for 52lb 2.4oz.  Joe, Campbell and Kevin will each receive a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies.  In second place with 21 trout for 48lb 13.3oz were Harelaw FF "B" represented by Ross Murdoch (10 fish), Adam Forrest (4 fish) and Vic Donato (7 fish) and in third with 17 fish for 45lb 2.2oz were Port Glasgow AC "A" represented Iain Lindsay (4 fish), Archie Blair (2 fish) and Derek Barclay (11 fish).

Most of the teams were catching their fish in Gateside Bay with teams of buzzers and a fab on a floating line doing well.

Heat 10- 15th July 2023

Twelve teams took part in the last of the Saturday night heats and the 36 anglers caught a total of 131 fish.  The evening's weather defied the forecast and stayed dry and more importantly the thunder and lightning stayed away.  The top team on the night was Glasgow Post Office FFC "A" with 28 fish for 59lb 14.8 oz.  They were represented by Kenny McClymont (7 fish), John Simpson (6 fish) and Brian Kennedy (15 fish) and each of them received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies and as a team they also received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific.  All of their fish were caught in Cages Bay on a mix of boobies and cormorants on a 6ft tip and dries.  In second place with 19 fish for 41lb 6.6oz were Ferry FF "A" represented by Andrew Glasgow (4 fish), Gordon Fisher (9 fish) and Mark Patrizio (6 fish).  In third with 16 fish for 34lb 3.2oz were SPPM AC "A" represented by Alastair MacGillivray (8 fish), Douglas Fairbairn (3 fish) and Donald Gillies (5 fish) and Balbeggie AC "B" represented by Jimmy Watson (7 fish), David Higginbotham (3 fish) and Scott Bowdler (3 fish) for a total of 13 fish for 32lb 11oz were fourth.  These four teams qualified for the semi-final on 18th August.  The heaviest fish on the night weighed 4lb 2.5oz and was caught by Ian Lamont of SPPM AC "B"

Eleven teams took part in our penultimate heat and the 33 anglers caught a total of 71 fish.  All the anglers who contested this heat deserved a medal for perseverance.  They had torrential rain for much of the night and lost two hours of their fishing time due to having to get off of the water on four occasions when their session was disrupted with thunder and lightning.

Top team on the night was Saltire FF "B" represented by Derek Keenan (9 fish), Alan Gilbert (5 fish) and Colin Macdonald (4 fish) with a total of 18 fish for 37lb 12.2oz.  Each of them were presented with a box of flies provide by My Fishing Flies and a team voucher for £30 provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific.  Butcher Boy AC  "A", represented by Mark Caisley (4 fish), Allan Caisley (3 fish) and Stuart Raybould (4 fish) were second with 11 fish for 22lb 7.6oz.  Tweed Valley Tanglers represented bu Keith Renton (8 fish), Dave Wright (2 fish) and David Carr were third with 10 fish for 20lb 0.3oz and Balfron Piscatorials represented by Jake Gilchrist (4 fish), Robbie Gibson (5 fish) and Connor Wales were fourth with 9 fish for 17lb 15.7oz.  These four teams qualified for the semi-final on 18th August.

Ten teams took part in heat 8 of the Scottish Club Championship and the top four qualified for the semi-final on 18th August and the top six individuals qualified for the Champion of Champions.  The top team of Military Veterans AC "B" took 27 fish for 54lb 6.3oz.  They were represented by J P Maestri (7 fish), Jock Royan (8 fish) and Jock Kettles (12 fish) and they each received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies and the team received a voucher for £30 provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific.  In second place represented by Russell Dickson (2 fish), Walter Archibald (12 fish) and John Benson (12 fish) was Costa Ecosse "B" with 26 fish for 53lb 8.2oz.  Rothes Oak AC "A", represented by Gary Ormiston (5 fish), Paul Cushnie (10 fish) and Wullie Simpson (9 fish) to give them 24 fish for 48lb 0.3oz were third and Balfron Piscatorials "B" represented by Bob Robertson (9 fish), James Hancock (5 fish) and Gordon Hayward (9 fish) were fourth with 23fish for 45lb 10oz. The heaviest fish of the night weighed 4lb 14oz and was caught by Colin Smith of Bechin AC.

Ten teams took part in heat 7 on 24th June and caught a total of 116 fish.  The top team was Neilston FF "A" represented by Tom Burnett (8 fish), Brian Mackenzie (12 fish) and Peter Cameron (5 fish) with a total of 25 fish for 49lb 15oz.  The team received a voucher for £30 provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each of them received a box of flies provided my My Fishing Flies.

In second place with 18 fish for 36lb 4.4oz was Bothwell & Blantyre AC "A" represented by Paul Wilson (4 fish), Laurie Taylor (7 fish) and Donald Stewart (7 fish).  Lochinch AC "A" represented by Alisdair Mair (8 fish), Ben Somerville and Sean Quinn (5 fish) with a total of 13 fish for 28lb 1.8oz were third and Kelso AA "A" represented by Keith Dickson (3 fish), Ronnie Glass (4 fish) and Mick Tait (5 fish) were fourth with 12 fish for 25lb 12.2oz.  These four teams go through to the semi-final on 18th August.

The heaviest fish of night weighed 3lb 3.1oz and was caught by Scott Young of Priory AC.

There were ten teams in heat 6 on 17th June and although conditions seemed near perfect the water temperature had sent the fish into deeper water.  The 30 anglers caught 69 fish of which thee over 4lb and another five over three lbs  were brought to the scales.

Top team with 12 fish for 26lb 2.3oz were Harelaw FF  "A" represented by Barry Lennon (1 fish), Andy Gray (4 fish) and Maro Fionda (7 fish).  The team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each team membe received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies.  They caught their fish in Cages Bay using di7s and boobies.  In second place with 11 fish for 20lb 12.4oz were Select FF "A" represented by David Wales (6 fish), Thomas McMillan (2 fish) and Alex Grant (3 fish).  The Lintrathen FF "A" team of Neil Anderson (3 fish), Kevin Neri (2 fish) and Bradley Chalmers (4 fish) were third with 9 fish for 20lb 11.6oz and the Select FF "B" team of Brian Fletcher (1 fish), Davie Couper (3 fish) and Craig Hewitison (4 fish) wee fourth with 8 fish for 18lb 5oz.  These four teams go through to the semi-final on 18th August.

The heaviest fish of the night weighed 4lb 9oz and was caught by Brian Brown of Kilmarnock FF.  The top six individuals qualified for the Champion of Champions on 6th October and they were:-

1. Mario Fionda of Harelaw with 7 fish for 15lb 2.9oz
2. Brian Brown of Kilmarnock with 6 fish for 15lb 0.5oz
3. David Wales of Select FF with 6 fish for 11lb 11.6oz

There were ten teams in heat 5 and once again they set out with clear blue skies.  Conditions changed after 7pm and all boats had to be brought ashore due to thunder and lightning.  The skies cleared after 8pm and fishing was able to resume.

The thirty anglers caught a total of 132 fish with many competitors finding fish hard to tempt although a couple did have an outstanding night.  The top team with 27 fish for 53lb 13.7 oz was Saltire FF "A" represented by Brian Carnegie (15 fish),  Ian Muir (5 fish) and Peter Edge (7 fish).  The Saltire team took their fish on dries and fished the Kates Brae, Gravel Pits, Lochend area drifting out from shallow to deeper water.  The team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each team member received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies.

In second with 20 fish for 40lb 9.3oz was the Central Belters FF "A" team represented by Willie Winning (12 fish),  Ian Stirrat (2 fish) and Allan Conlin (6 fish).  The Leslie & Glenrothes AC "A" team of Stevie Anderson (3 fish),  Will Barnett (6 fish) and Neil Duff (8 fish) were third with 17 fish for 36lb 7.3oz.  The fourth spot went to Port Glasgow AC "B" represented by Andy Durk (5 fish), Andy Elkin (4 fish) and Andy McKay (5 fish) to give them a total of 14 fish for 28lb 10.9oz.  The heaviest fish on the night weighed 4lb 2.6oz and was caught by Stevie Anderson of Leslie & Glenrothes.

The top six individuals qualified for the Champion of Champions and they were:-

The recent hot weather continued through heat 4 of the Scottish Club Championship on Saturday 3rd June with the session fished with a cloudless sky.  Twelve teams took part and the 36 anglers caught a total of 178 fish.  Top team on the night with 31 fish for 61lb 3.5oz was Black Bull FF AC "A" represented by Peter Allan (9 fish), Ian Wright (7 fish) and Mikey Burke (15 fish).  Each team member received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies and the team team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific.  The team were all fishing floating lines and took their fish in the Kates Brae and Lochend area on a mix of muskins, diawl bachs, fabs and cat boobies.

Close behind in second place was Avonbank FC "A" with 29 fish for 57lb 13.9oz.  Avonbank were represented by William Brownlie (13 fish), Alan Martin 1 fish) and George Telford (15 fish).  Harelaw FF "B" represented by Ross Murdoch (1 fish), Adam Forrest (6 fish) and Vic Donato (14 fish) were third with 21 fish for 42lb 10.8oz and Port Glasgow AC "A" represented by Iain Lindsay (7 fish), Archie Blair (7 fish) and Derek Barclay (5 fish) were fourth with 19 fish for 40lb 3oz.  These four teams go through to the semi-final on 11th August.

The heaviest fish of the night weighed 3lb 13.5oz and was caught by Vic Donato.

The top six individuals qhalify for the Champion of Champions on 6th October and they were:

Each team consists of three anglers with the first two fish being retained and an allowance of 2lb given for each fish returned. The top four teams from each heat go through to the semi-finals in August and the top six individuals qualify for the Champion of Champions which is held in October.
 
 
The evening started with a fresh breeze from the north-west which calmed down as bit as the night went on. It stayed dry and was a fine night to be out.
 
Top team on the night consisted of Firecats "A" with Campbell Cree (14 fish), Joe Wood (11 fish) and Kevin Craig, (1 fish) giving a total of 26 fish for 49lbs 15.8ozs. The winning team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each team member received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies. They caught their fish at Lochend on Double Decker and Yellow Owl dries. These were either fished static or figure of eighted as the fish were in the mood for a chase.
 
 
In second place were Albacats "B" with James Kerr, (10 fish), Greig Davie, (8 fish) and Mark Fleming, (4 fish) giving them 22 fish for 43lbs 9.4ozs.  3rd were Perth RASC "A" with Grant Sutherland, (11 fish), Andrew Kemp, (4 fish) aand Keith Doig, (7 fish) giving a total of 22 fish for 43lbs 0.4ozs
 
4th were East Kilbride AC "B" with Craig McKean, (8 fish), Adam Jukes, (7 fish) and Conner McGurk, (3 fish) giving them 18 fish for 35lbs 12.8ozs.

The evening started with a light wind from the west with rain and muggy conditions later in the session. Lots of fish were moving on the surface but they were not always easy to catch.
 
Top team on the night consisted of Grimm Anglers "A" with Craig Inglis (9 fish), Stuart Inglis (8 fish) and Calum Inglis, (1 fish) giving a total of 18 fish for 34lbs 14.9ozs. The winning team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each team member received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies .
 
 
In second place was West Lothian Fly Dressers "A" with Ross Carnegie, (11 fish), Wayne Cram, (1 fish) aand Nicola Carnegie, (0 fish) giving a total of 12 fish for 22lbs 11.8ozs.
 
3rd were SPRA West "B" with Harris Campbell, (7 fish), Bob Brown, (3 fish) and John Wright, (0 fish) giving them 10 fish for 19lbs 15.4ozs.
 
4th were Dunfermline Artisan AC "A" with Ian McConville, (4 fish), Danny Wilson, (2 fish) and Drew Lamb, (2 fish) giving them 8 fish for 14lbs 9.9ozs.

Scottish Club Championship

Heat 1 - 13th May 2023

The 2023 Scottish Club Championship got underway on Saturday 13th May with nine teams taking part.  Each team consists of three anglers with the first two fish being retained and an allowance of 2lb given for each fish returned.  The top four teams from each heat go through to the semi-finals in August and the top six individuals qualify for the Champion of Champions which is held in October.

The 27 anglers in heat one caught a total of 96 fish.  The top team was Heriot AC  "A" represented by the 2021 Champion of Champions winner Keith Logan (9 fish), Trevor Gibson (5 fish) and Mel Mitchell (5 fish) to give them a total of 19 fish for 38lb 12oz.  The Heriot AC team received a £30 voucher provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific and each team member received a box of flies provided by My Fishing Flies . In second with 17 fish for 32lb 7.2oz was Strathgryfe AA  "A" represented by Kenny Finlayson (10 fish), Ken Oliver (5 fish) and David Fullerton (2 fish).  Third place with 15 fish for 28lb 1.5oz went to Black Bull FFC "A" represented by James Charters (7 fish), George Charters (5 fish) and Jamie O'Meara (3 fish) and the fourth spot with 11 fish for 18lb 7.2oz went to Rescobie Loch DA "A" represented by George Gall (3 fish), Ron Gray (5 fish) and Charlie Walls (3 fish).  

The six individuals qualifying for the Champion of Champions were:-

1.  Kenny Finlayson of Strathgryfe AA with 10 trout for 19lb 7oz
2.  Keith Logan of Heriot AC with 9 trout for 17lb 7.9oz
3.  James Charters of Black Bull FFC with 7 trout for 12lb 12.1oz
4.  Trevor Gibson of Heriot AC with 5 trout for 11lb 4.1oz
5.  George Charters of Black Bull FFC with 5 trout for 10lb 2.3oz
6.  Mel Mitchell of Heriot AC with 5 trout for 10lb

The heaviest fish in heat 1 weighed 3lb 4.3oz and was caught by Lee Lindop of West Coast FFC.
