The last of the semi-finals was held at the Lake of Menteith on Friday 27th June. The rain started as the competitors were setting off and remained on for most of the day. However the trout weren't put off and quite a few good bags were taken.

There were 36 anglers in the semi and the top 18 qualified for the final. Top rod with 15 fish for 32lb 11.5oz was Kevin Porteous of FNF Falcons. In second place with 1 fish for 24lb 3oz was Greig Davie of Thalassa AC and Ben Robertson of West Linton AC was third with 10 fish for 23lb 3.5oz.

Semi No 4 - Harelaw - 20th June 2025
The 22 anglers in our 4th semi-final at Harelaw had to contend with trying to qualify on the hottest day of the year. There was high cloud and a very light breeze when the competitors took to the water and some anglers were into fish pretty quickly. However the temperature rose quickly, the breeze picked up and the sun broke through and the fish became very hard to tempt.
Martyn Shaw of Firecats was the top rod with 6 fish for 11lb 11.6oz. Brad Gair of Balfron Piscatorials was second with 5 fish for 10lb 2.7oz and Dave Wright of St Boswells was third with 4 fish for 8lb 13.3oz.
The top 11 qualified for the final.

On a wet and blustery day at the Lake of Menteith on 17th June 2025, 32 anglers contested the third of the semi-finals and caught a total of 205 trout. The top 16 qualified for the final. Top rod with 17 fish for 35lb 0.7oz was Martin McCafferty of Future FF. Adam King of Balfron Piscatorials was second with 13 fish for 27lb 0.7oz and Peter Cameron of Househillmuir FF was third with 11 fish for 24lb 10.2oz.

The second of the semis was held at Harelaw on 13th June on a day that started with overcast skies and a fairly warm breeze. The session started well but as the wind picked up and turned chilly the trout were not easy to tempt. There were 25 competitors in the semi and they caught 123 fish.
Top rod was Brian Kennedy of Glasgow PO AC with 11 trout for 21lb 12.9oz. In second with 11 trout for 21lb 12.8oz was Mark McNaughton of Lochend FF and third with 9 trout for 18lb 9.1oz was Kevin Andrdews of Lochan Dubh. The top 12 anglers qualified for the final.

Semi-Final No 1 - Lintrathen 10th June 2025
The semi-Final stage of the National started at Lintrathen on 10th June and on another bright day with a cold breeze it wasn't easy for the competitors. 18 anglers contested this semi with the top 9 going through to the final. They caught a total of 87 fish of which 13 were over 4lb and a further 6 were over 3lb. At the weigh-in the trout were capped at 3lb with 1.5lb being awarded for each fish.
Top rod with 12 trout for 21lb was Kevin McCabe of Change FF AC. James Gardiner of Ruthven FF was second with 9 fish for 16lb 8oz and Ronnie Gilbert of Greys Menteith Ospreys was third with 8 fish for 15lb.

Heat 8 - Lake of Menteith 23rd May 2025
The last of the 2025 National heats was held at the Lake of Menteith on Friday 23rd May and once again the competitors were faced with a warm sunny day. They had a light breeze in the morning which gradually picked up as the session progressed. Trout were on the surface in many areas and the boats were well spread out. Quite a few heavy fish were caught with trout of 7lb 8oz, 5lb 14oz, 5lb 8oz, 4lb 9oz and 4lb 4oz brought to the scales.
Top rod, and winner of the pair of Vision sunglasses provided by Vision Fly Fishing UK and Fishers Direct, was Grant Sutherland of Perth RASC who had 12 trout for 25lb 8.9oz. Close behind in second was previous National champion, Peter Auchterlonie of Greys Menteith Ospreys, with 12 trout for 24lb 6.9oz. Brian Fletcher of Select FF was third with 11 trout for 23lb 8.2oz.
The top 16 qualified for the semi-finals and the cut off weight was 10lb 15.5oz
There is a break for a couple of weeks with the semis starting at Lintrathen on 10th June.

Heat 7 - Loch Leven 20th May 2025
The penultimate National heat was held at Loch Leven on a day when there was rarely any clouds in the sky. However the Loch Leven trout weren't put off by a bit of sun and the 22 competitors netted 49 trout. Of the trout brought to the scales there was one at 2lb 13oz and another at 3lb 2oz.

Top rod with 8 trout for 8lb 14oz was Adam King of Balfron Piscatorials. Adam received a pair of Vision sunglasses provided by our sponsors Fishers Direct and Vision Fly Fishing UK. In second place with 4 trout for 5lb 15oz was David Wales of Dalry Garnock and Brad Chalmers of Lintrathen FF was third with 5 trout for 5lb 13.4oz.
Two trout were needed to get through to the semis and the top 11 qualified.

Heat 5 - Lintrathen- 8th May 2025
For the fifth heat of the National we were at Lintrathen and the competitors had to contend with a sunny day coupled with a chilly breeze that was constantly changing direction. 37 anglers took part in the heat and caught a total of 54 fish for 116lb 13.9oz The top 19 qualified for the semi-finals.
Top rod was Jim Mckinlay of East Kilbride AC with 5 fish for 8lb 13.4oz. Jim received a pair of Vision sunglasses provided by our sponsors Fishers Direct and Vision Fly Fishing UK. In second with 4 trout for 8 lb 10.7oz was Ian Wilson of CSSC Rosyth and third with 4 trout for 7 lb 11.3 oz was John Maestri of Military Veterans FF.

Heat 4 - Frandy - 6th May 2025
We moved to Frandy for the fourth heat of the National and the 25 competitors caught a total of 250 trout for 492lb 15oz.
Top rod with with 20 trout for 40lb 1.5oz was Nigel Burns of Crieff AC. Nigel received a pair of Vision sunglasses provided by our sponsors Fishers Direct and Vision Fly Fishing UK. In second with 19 trout for 38 lb 1.6oz was Paul Clarke of Priory AC and third with 16 trout for 31 lb 12.4oz was Mark Tweedie of Strathleven FF. The top 14 anglers qualified for the semi-finals.

Heat 3 - Menteith - 22nd April 2025
We were back at the Lake of Menteith for the third heat of the National and the 52 competitors had near perfect conditions with a mix of flat clam, a light breeze, sun and clouds. A total of 686 trout were caught of which one was over 5lb and 15 were over 4lb.
Top rod with with 40 trout for 82lb 8.8oz was Tyler Hay of Tartan Tyers. In second with 33 trout for 68 lb 3.4oz was Calum Clark of Firecats and third with 30 trout for 60lb 7.4oz was Campbell Cree also of Firecats. Tyler received a pair Vision sunglasses provided by sponsors Vision Fly Fishing UK and Fishers Direct. The top 26 qualified for the semi-finals.

Heat 2 - Harelaw - 18th April 2025
We moved to Harelaw for the second of the National heats where the competitors had to contend with unseasonable conditions. It was cold and blustery and later in the day the rain came in which made for hard conditions for the anglers. Stevie Plank of Johnstone FF however managed to cope with the conditions and netted 10 trout for 20lb 0.2ozs. Stevie received a pair of Vision sunglasses provided by our sponsors Vision Fly Fishing UK and Fishers Direct. Close behind in second with 8 trout for 17lb 5oz was Michael Ward a.lso of Johnstoner FF and Keith Renton of Tweed Valley Tanglers took the third spot with 7 trout for for 14lb 1.2oz.
33 competitors took part and the top 17 qualified for the semi-finals.

Heat 1 - Lake of Menteith -15th April
The first heat of the National was won by Darren Heenan of Arbroath AC who netted 25 trout for 51lb 10.8oz. Joseph Wood of Snowbee Albacats was second with 24 trout and Gil Farid of East Kilbride AC was 3rd with 23 trout. The 45 anglers caught a total of 474 trout for 1011lb 2.1 oz. The heaviest fish was 5lb 11oz and the catch included two fish over 5lbs and 7 over 4lbs. The top 23 qualified for the semi-finals
