Once again the Board of the Lake of Menteith Fishery will sponsor the Spring and Autumn International Teams. This is the third year that the lake of Menteith has sponsored the teams and we are grateful to them for their continued support. The funding provided by them will be used to reduce the costs that would otherwise have to be paid by the individual team members.

Raffle to Support the Spring International Team
A presentation fly box containg 280 flies tied by the members of the team going to the Spring International at Lough Conn was raffled over the first four heats of the National Trout Fly Fishing Championships at Carron and Menteith. £330 was raised and the team going to Lough Conn wish to thank everyone who bought tickets for their support. The draw was done after the weigh-in at the Lake of Menteith on 6th May and was won by Peter Cameron (Househillmuir FF). Not only has Peter won the fly box but he also qualified for the semi final at heat 1. Another fly box is being prepared by the Autumn team and this will be raffled at the remaining heats.
Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend
Nigel Burns, Andy Dunn and Jock Kettles from the International teams were at the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend on 6th/7th March and took the opportunity to make people aware of the workings of SANACC and our attendance at the Spring and Autumn Internationals in Ireland and Wales. A box containing 140 flies tied by the Autumn team was put forward as a raffle prize and was won by Alasdair Kale from Falkirk. No doubt it will be put to good use within the next few weeks. This was an excellent opportunity to advertise ourselves and once again we are grateful to the Glasgow Angling Centre for supporting us.

At the AGM on Sunday, Jim Hay handed over a cheque for £100 from Dunfermline Artisan Angling Club as a donation to funds being raised for the Spring and Autumn teams. One of their members, Jim Bonellie, is in the Spring team going to Ireland and this support is appreciated by both teams.

Fundraiser - New Howwood Fishery - 28th March 2010
The fundraiser at New Howwood Fishery that was originally scheduled for February went ahead on Sunday 28th March and Bob Robertson and Stevie Welsh, ably assisted by John Buchanan and Andy McKay did a great job to ensure that the rearranged event was a success. Twenty four anglers turned up to brave the cold conditions in search of a trout or two. Towards the end of the day it looked likely that the top two competitors would end up with four fish each but Andy Dunn took a fifth one in the last fiteen minutes to take first place. Gavin Hill was second with four fish and Graham Boyd was third with three.
The competition would not have been possible if it was not for the generosity of Colin and Alisdair at the New Howwood Fishery. Many thanks to them for allowing us to hold the match there. £575 was raised on the day and this will go towards the team members costs. Prizes for the competition and the raffle were donated by many very generous people and special thanks are due to Graham Milligan at Rods and Reels in Johnstone; Fishpal; Ronnie Peterson at the Fishing Shop Greenock; Stevie Welsh; Daiwa and Mark Stephen.

Raith Lake Fundraiser - Saturday 27th February 2010
After being 'iced off' last week the fundraiser at Raith Lake organised by Neil Duff from the Spring International Team went ahead on Saturday 27th February. The temperature was a bit higher this week and instead of ice it was heavy snow that hit most of the east and central areas making travel difficult and thirteen intrepid anglers managed to make their way there for the competition. The icy conditions, followed by rain and then snow made for difficult fishing conditions but an enjoyable day was still there to be had.
Four competitors managed to winkle out 7 fish with Davie Tyrie (2 x fish) finishing first just ahead of Scott Paterson (2 x fish), Rab Maxwell (2 x fish) and Jim Bonellie (1 x fish).
Andy, Jim and Frank at Raith Lake Fisheries made sure that all the competitors were well looked after and we are grateful to them for their support. Prizes were handed in by several people and we would like to thank Brian Kayes and Remploy, Leven; Jim Laird and Quality Precision Technology; Kevin Gibson and Parker SSD; Stephen Clark, Painter & Decorator and everyone else who supported the event. £207 was raised which will go towards the costs of the teams going to Ireland and Wales.
The Top Four

Markle Fundraiser - 7th February 2010
The 2010 season has been a long time coming but an initial start was made on Sunday 7th February with the first of the fundraisers for the International Teams. The Autumn International Team arranged a fundraiser at Markle Fishery and received tremeandous support. Donations for prizes came from the competitors themselves and from many others too numerous to mention. The main prizes were donated by the Glasgow Angling Centre and The Crafteye Fisherman. John at Markle Fishery had ensured that there was a good head of quality fish for the 41 competitors to fish for and supplied a lunch to warm up the competitors at the half way point. £1,300 was raised on the day and this will go towards the individual team members costs at the Spring and Autumn Internationals.
This fundraiser was organised Nigel Burns, the Autumn Team Captain and Nigel wishes to thank those mentioned above and everyone else who donated prizes or took part in the event.
The top four in the competition were only separated by one fish with the placings being decided by the time of the first fish caught. Even then there was only 7 minutes between the first and second.
In 1st Place:-
The winner with 13 fish was "Tosh" Storrer who caught his first fish at 9.03am. (They only started at 9am). Tosh caught his fish on two buzzers which he fished on a floating line. The fish came steadily throughout the day with the majority of them coming from the Monastery Pond
In 2nd Place:-
In 2nd place was Laurie Taylor who also had 13 fish but lost out on timing with his first fish coming in at 9.10am. Laurie also caught steadily throughout the day but with the majority of his fish being caught in the morning. He used an intermediate line with most of his fish coming to a hot redhead damsel.
Gus Armour (12 x fish) receives his third prize from Jock Kettles
John Cree (12 x fish) receives his 4th prize from Jock Kettles
